• Effect of chemical and natural substances (such as propolis and plant extracts containing flavonoids and other polyphenolic compounds) on heart and liver mitochondria.
  
  
• Effect of cardioplegia and heart failure on mitochondrial function in atrium and ventricle fibers from patients heart.
  
  
• Mitochondrial injury in acute pancreatitis.

LABORATORY TECHNIQUE EXPERIENCE

• Protein chemistry techniques: absorbtion spectroscopy methods, including determination the amount of cytochromes c+c1, and cytochrome a in mitochondria and heart mucle fibers, and kinetic mitochondrial protein activity assays (complexes I+III, II+III, III, COX, SDH, CS, F_OF₁ATP-ase).
  
  
• Cell culture techniques: preparation of human vascular smooth muscle cells and hippocampal slice cultures. Cultivation of macrophage cell culture
  
  
• Cellular bioenergetics techniques: preparation of skinned heart and skeletal muscle fibers, isolation of mitochondria from heart, skeletal muscle and liver; oxygraphic registration of mitochondrial respiration; oxygraphic measurements of bacterial oxidative metabolism.
  
  
• Other techniques: measurements of ROS generation in mitochondria; spectrophotometric determination of phenolic compounds in propolis extracts.
